New kernel

At last the problem causing the early boot hang triggered by hwclock that happens on some
compaq and HP laptops has been diagnosed and a workaround patch is available. Look here for
details : http://lwn.net/Articles/263418/ see my name there ? My name is in the linux kernel :)

The LKML thread where the problem was discussed has to be the lengthiest and most intricate I ever followed.

This goes along nicely with the kernel 2.6.24 release which has a lot of improvements specially the b43 driver
that makes my broadcom wireless card work like a charm.

In other news, after upgrading to hardy I started using metacity's compositor to run avant-window-navigator, and
so far it is much lighter than compiz despite some visual glitches. Compiz still has the problem with nvidia drivers
where it leaks a huge amount of memory. Look here for details http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=100803

However the 100.14.19 release of nvidia drivers remain the best release, where I can switch consoles properly and suspend and resume too.

I am starting to play with pulseaudio to see what the buzz is about.

I filed a bug on launchpad against evolution, to try to participate in the development of hardy, and be a good FOSS citizen, but all in all hardy is failing to impress me and I am really thinking about switching away from ubuntu.

Oh btw, thinking of creating a pyGTK interface for devilspie.. anyone interested?
