Blaze one for Opensource

For a long time I have been silent about the nature of my IT related work. It was mostly freelancing and doing small projects for people, to excersize my knowledge in Linux, Livecds and embedded.

After a hiatus during part of my medical training year I started working in a long term project on a 3 days per week basis, and for the past 6 months, I have been employed at OpenCraft.

There I worked as a system engineer and participated in building a semi-embedded GNU/Linux system based on ubuntu feisty and mythtv. The project was a partnership between OpenCraft and Xteams and under the auspises of a big multinationa company.

My skills and experience were greatly expanded during these 6 months, but I would like to comment on is the work environment. OpenCraft is a wonderful place to work in and it has wonderful people that I enjoyed working for and with.

And now for the purpose of the post:

Most of the project's results are now released at Sourceforge !

Of course most of my work is tied to the operating system so it doesn't appear in the release. But I intend to blog about some of the things that I did. I also intend to submit any patches I deem useful to appropriate upstream.

I didn't think the release would be a full fork, but I believe that the useful stuff will eventually find its way to mythtv upstream. Highlights are the Arabic translation, Arabic OSD support, and some useful extra plugins as well as a beautiful new theme.

Whether this marks the end of my OpenSource adventures or not, specially in light of recent events, I will always cherish the times I spent at OpenCraft and the effort I put in this finally open source project.

That's it for now.
